This will be my final month as District Governor Nominee and on July 1st starts my year as District Governor-Elect and as such I will be entering uncharted territory. Traditionally the District Governor has a clear idea of what to expect as DGE, however, this year the format will be different for two reasons: We will be merging with District 7250 and I will be preparing for my year under Rotary International's Future Vision.

To simplify the grant-making process, the Future Vision Plan offers only two types of grants: Rotary Foundation District Grants and Rotary Foundation Global Grants. District Grants can be used to fund scholarships, support vocational teams, sponsor volunteer service, provide disaster recovery assistance and carry out community and international service projects. District grants allow flexibility to Rotarians and are fully funded through District Designated Funds (DDF).

Global Grants support larger projects with sustainable, high-impact outcomes in six areas of focus:

               Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
               Disease prevention and treatment
               Water and sanitation
               Maternal and child health
               Basic education and literacy
               Economic and community development

Clubs and Districts can either create their own global grant projects or sponsor packaged grants developed by The Rotary Foundation in collaboration with strategic partners. Club and district developed grants will receive a funding match from the foundation. The minimum total cost for a global grant is $30,000. A package grant is developed by TRF which may work with a strategic partner in a particular project. These packaged grants will be posted online as they become available.

I will be relying on RI, PDGs, Assistant District Governors and I will also need the help of Rotarians since the dynamics of reporting will change and in order to accomplish my goals in my year as District Governor I will have to have my plans ready by the end of this year before I go to San Diego, California for my final training in January.

 Gwenn Ramage

Yours in Rotary
