Letter to the District

July has arrived and we look forward  to a new Rotary year. As your District Governor, I am honored to have the opportunity to serve you my fellow Rotarians.
This years Rotary theme is "Light Up Rotary". It's not just a theme for the year it is a call for each club to take action and make a Rotary stronger. The 2014-15 Presidential Citation will recognize Rotary clubs that take action to increase their membership, enhance their service impact, and expand their network. Clubs are asked to sponsor a Rotary Day to introduce a rotary to non-Rotarians.

My emphasis this year as always the five avenues of service. We must continue to support and get involved to continue not only the growth of RI, but our District.

My special focus will be Veterans and Health and Wellness. I am asking each club to reach out to a VFW, American Legion or DAV.  There is great need not only the Veterans returning from recent conflicts, but Veterans from all wars who might to assistance.  We already have a Veterans project this is a expansion of the program. I am referring to the resource manual developed by the Glen Cove Club.
My other focus is Health and Wellness. This project is for Rotarians and their families. As Rotarians we are concerned for people in our communities and around the world, but seem to ignore our own health. The idea is to provide guest speakers concerning all health and fitness issues. Dr Howard Robbins is the chair of this committee. Further information is to follow.
This year the AGs will have a greater emphasis in leading and supporting their clubs to achieve their club and District goals. Rotary Central, and My Rotary are two key elements to assist club Presidents and Secretaries.
Any district committee could be called upon to be guest speakers at the clubs. Also the District has a speakers bureau chaired by PDG Bob Tedesco.
I would like to commend DG Gwen Remage -Wons for her tireless efforts as the first merge DG of 7255. Thank you DG Gwen.

Finally I look forward to working with each club to assist in make each club successful and viable for this Rotary year.
